Gel Blaster Buyer's Guide — What Should You Look For?

Whether you're buying your first gel blaster or looking for an upgrade — there are dozens of models across all price ranges and styles. This buyer's guide helps you quickly find the right gel blaster: from play style and budget to specifications, accessories, and ammo.

Which type suits your play style?

Gel Blasters come in four main categories. Each type is designed for a different way of playing.

Assault Rifles — versatile & popular

Assault rifles are the best-selling category. They combine solid range with fully automatic fire and suit almost every play style — from beginners to experienced players. Ideal for outdoor play at medium range. Browse all Assault Gel Blasters.

SMGs — fast and compact

Submachine guns are compact, lightweight, and fire at a high rate. Perfect for players who move quickly and prefer close-quarters combat. Their size also makes them a popular first blaster. Browse all SMG Gel Blasters.

Rifles / Snipers — precision at range

Rifles are larger and heavier but deliver greater range and accuracy. The best choice if you want to play from a distance on a large field or open terrain. Less suited to close-quarters combat. Browse all Rifle Gel Blasters.

Pistols — compact sidearm

Pistols are the smallest and lightest option. Ideal as a sidearm or for younger players just starting out. Less firepower than larger models, but maximum manoeuvrability. Browse all Pistol Gel Blasters.

Price ranges: what do you get for your money?

GelWeapons carries models across three value tiers, so there's a right fit for every budget:

  • ★★☆☆☆ Entry level: Great first blasters with solid performance. Less firepower than pricier models, but perfectly suited for recreational play.
  • ★★★☆☆ Mid-range: The sweet spot. More precision, higher fire rate, and better build quality. Most of our bestsellers fall into this segment.
  • ★★★★★ High-end: Maximum performance, greater firepower, and advanced specs for players who want to get the most out of their blaster.

Key specifications: what to look for

Single shot vs. full auto

Most gel blasters at GelWeapons fire fully automatically: hold the trigger and the blaster keeps firing. Some models also offer a semi-automatic mode, where a single trigger pull fires one shot. Full-auto is the most popular for skirmishes; semi-auto is useful for controlled fire at range.

Electric prime function

Some models feature an electric prime function — a mechanism that automatically chambers the first gel ball when the blaster is switched on, without you having to do it manually. This ensures smoother operation and reduces the chance of misfires, especially at the start of a session. Great for players who want instant action without the fuss.

Power, speed, precision & range

Every product page shows four stats: power, speed, precision, and range. These give a solid indication of a model's strengths. A high power score means a harder shot; a high speed score means a faster rate of fire. Precision and range matter most if you want to play from a distance.

Gel Balls: which ammo should you choose?

No gel balls, no game. They need to soak in water for at least 4 hours, growing from 1–2 mm to 7.5–8 mm. Browse the full Gel Balls range.

Coloured Gel Balls — standard choice

Coloured gel balls are the most widely used variant. They're perfectly suited for entry-level and mid-range models. Available in blue and orange, in packs of 10,000 to 100,000.

Glow in the Dark Gel Balls — perfect for night games

Gel balls that glow in the dark — ideal combined with a tracer for spectacular light effects during evening sessions. Available in 10,000, 20,000, 50,000, and 100,000.

Premium Gel Balls — for high-end blasters

The premium gel balls are specifically designed for high-end gel blasters. They're slightly heavier and harder, allowing them to handle higher chamber pressure and travel more stably through the air. They measure 7.5–8 mm after soaking, are biodegradable, and fit all models. Available in packs of 10,000, 20,000, 50,000, and 100,000.

How many gel balls do you need?

On average you'll use 1,000–3,000 gel balls per 30-minute session. A pack of 10,000 covers multiple sessions. For regular play, a pack of 50,000 or 100,000 is far better value per shot.
